"Combining Academic Success,

Traditional Values and

Individual Excellence"

The Lower School

The school is divided into two main areas: Lower School and Senior School on the one site.

Lower School children start at three years of age. The emphasis in these first years is on establishing the basics of English and Mathematics, as well as developing the individual pupils as learners through play. Every classroom in the Lower School has a multimedia computer and from Year Three every class has access to one of our main computer suites. The Lower School children are gradually introduced to the subject areas they will meet in later years.

Pupils follow a broad and balanced curriculum. All classes are small and for much of the time have a Learning Support Assistant (L.S.A.) to work with the Class Teacher in the Lower School. The School's policy is to use the general requirements of the National Curriculum in Key Stages 1 – 4 as a foundation on which we build.

In Year Four the children are join the House System. There are 4 houses, Balmoral, Buckingham, Sandringham and Windsor.

Year 4-6 Middle School
Pupils follow the Senor School timetable and are taught by specialist teachers rather than remaining with their class teacher for most lessons. Our aim is to introduce them to the idea of moving around the building and organising their books and equipment.
Pupils start French from Year 4 and in Year 6 begin take Home Economics. The facilities of the whole school are available to the Lower School and are fully used from Year 4 upwards.

At 11, most of the pupils move up into the Senior School. Whilst we are not academically selective pupils may take our Scholarship exam if they wish.

Activities
Lower School pupils may take individual Music lessons in a wide range of instruments and join the Junior Orchestra and from Year 4 they join the Senior Orchestra. There is also a Junior Choir. Pupils may also take individual or group Speech and Drama lessons which lead to the L.A.M.D.A exams. Chess is a popular lunchtime club. There is a gym club and dance lessons. Teams for netball and rounders are popular.
Year 5-6 enjoy a wonderful trip to Northern France every other year.
